Your oral health matters in ways you might even realize. Studies have found that individuals with tooth decay and gum disease have a higher risk for health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, dementia, and cancer. Maintaining your oral health means scheduling regular exams and cleanings with our team at Seaside Family Dentistry.

Dr. Santos and the American Dental Association both recommend that patients undergo a thorough dental exam and cleaning once every six months. However, depending on the current state of your oral health, more frequent visits may be recommended.

Dental x-rays are incredibly safe and pose no threat to your health. The minuscule amount of radiation a patient is exposed to during a dental x-ray is roughly the same as you would receive during an airplane flight across the country. At Seaside Family Dentistry, we utilize 3D Cone Beam Technology that uses roughly 10 times less radiation than a normal x-ray, so patients receive almost no exposure at all.

While most of us know that a cavity is bad for our oral health, a surprising number of patients remain a little unclear on what exactly a cavity is. A cavity is simply a small hole that has developed in tooth enamel as a result of tooth decay. The resulting hole that is created makes the overall structure of a tooth weaker than when whole. Think of it as taking a peg out of a Jenga tower. Sure the tower still stands up, but it’s far more likely to collapse than before.

The reason cavities present such a danger to our oral health is that they will only continue to grow larger and larger over time. If left untreated, a tooth can weaken to the point of collapse. When that happens, permanent tooth loss could occur.

Dr. Santos provides a comprehensive range of dental care services, including preventative, cosmetic, and restorative treatments for patients of all ages. Whether you require a dental cleaning, desire a whiter smile, or are in need of a dental implant to repair a gap in your smile, Dr. Santos has you covered.

Dr. Santos understands that not every patient likes the idea of visiting a Seaside family dentist. If you suffer from a fear of the dentist, know that you’re not alone. A recent study in The Journal of the American Dental Association found that up to 75 percent of Americans suffer from some degree of dental anxiety. Unfortunately, avoiding the dentist only prevents you from receiving the dental needed to protect your health.

At Seaside Family Dentistry, we work hard to remove the anxiety and stress from any dental visit. From creating a warm and welcoming office environment to taking the time to provide you with a detailed understanding of every treatment and procedure, our staff of gentle dental professionals will do whatever it takes to help you feel comfortable and relaxed.
